Hard Drive Players

Hard drive style MP3 players are commonly known as jukebox players because of their ability to hold large numbers of MP3 tracks. Depending on the bitrate you encode your music at, hard drive MP3 players can hold upwards of 10,000 tracks.

In recent years, hard disk drives (HDD) have been dramtically reduced in size. The picture below is the IBM (now Hitachi) MicroDrive, a hard disk that is actually a Compact Flash Card.

MP3 players such as the Rio Nitrus use very small hard drives to acheive gigabyte storage. The larger jukebox style (10, 20, 40, 60 gigabytes) drives are usually 2" disk drives or larger.
